Sam Chambers, a native of Austin, Texas, graduated from the "Old" L.C. Anderson ("Mighty Yellow Jackets") High School, Class of 1970. Anderson High School, Austin, Texas.

He was a member of the track team for three years, 1968-1970.

Under the late Granvile Ewing, an amazing coach and many records were set locally, state and nationally under his leadership.

He was a "Sprinter" and ran in the following races, winning 1st place: 1968 Sprint Medley Relay, 1968 Border Olympics 440 Yd. Relay, Laredo, Texas; 1968 & 1970 Texas Relays-440 Yd Relay; 1970 Regional Meet UIL 440 Yd. Relay AAAA; 1970 Little state Meet, Corpus Christi, Texas-440 Yd. Relay and 1970 S.U. PEL. State 440 Yd. Relay 1st Relays. In 1970, he was a member of the 440 relay team and advanced to State, and broke State and National records at 40.4 seconds. The "Old" L.C. Anderson high school track team became infamous for their "Peak" performances and became well known for their track records.

He received a track scholarship from Texas Southern University, Houston, Texas, but did not receive a degree, instead he pursued a work career with the U.S. Postal Service and is currently employed there.

Chambers is married to Tina McPhaul-Chambers. He is a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He enjoys traveling, movies and fine dining.
