About the Association
The Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association is a nonprofit — 501(c)(3) — dedicated to remembering the past with pride.
The PVIL governed athletics and academics for Black Texas high schools from 1920 to 1970. The Association keeps that record intact — the coaches, the athletes, the schools, and the championships — and works to see it recognized alongside the rest of Texas high school sports history.
Preserve the glory years
Remember the league that existed from 1920 to 1970, and instill personal pride and self-esteem by increasing cultural awareness of the PVIL heritage.
Recognize the coaches
Identify former PVIL coaches inducted into the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Honor.
Build a museum
Develop a permanent home to house the PVIL memorabilia so the collection stays together and stays public.
Grow the membership
Seek PVILCA memberships from young male and female coaches, so the next generation carries the history forward.
Recognition
Acquire University Interscholastic League (UIL) sanction and recognition of all individual athletic, school, and coaching records from the PVIL in baseball, basketball, football, swimming, tennis, and track and field.
