Ray "Baby Ray" Redmon attended Phillis Wheatley High School in Houston, Texas where he was one of the premier sprinters in the PVIL. He earned his nickname "Baby Ray" due to his young age when he first started competing at the varsity level.
Ray was known for his explosive speed and was a member of championship relay teams. His achievements in track and field made him one of the most celebrated athletes of his era.
His success during the transition period from PVIL to UIL helped demonstrate the talent of African American athletes and paved the way for integration.
