Marvin O'Neal Karo graduated LC Anderson High School, Class of 1966.
As a ninth grader, he would leave Kealing Junior High School and walk over to Anderson High School to practice with the varsity football team. When he attended Anderson, he made the team as starting right defensive back, kick-off receiver and played offensive. Coached by the legendary Raymond Timmons (1963-1965), Karo was a three year letterman, two of the three years he served as team captain. Throughout his entire football career, he never missed a game.
Karo worked for John Roberts Ring Manufacturing Company in Austin, Texas before he was drafted by the United States Army in 1970, serving in the Vietnam War as a communication specialist.
In 1972, Karo was honorably discharged and began working for the Department of Defense at Hunter's Point Naval Shipyard in San Francisco, California. When the shipyard closed, Karo transferred to Long Beach, California Naval Shipyard working as a boilermaker apprentice, quality control inspector and production supervisor. During his time at Long Beach Naval Shipyard he helped repair and recommission the USS Missouri and the USS New Jersey battleships.
In 1994, Karo retired right before returning to work as a boilermaker at multiple local oil refineries, as well as several power and nuclear power plants across the nation before completely retiring in 2010.
Karo currently resides in Long Beach, California with his wife Kathryn. He is a proud father of seven children, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Karo is an active member of City of Refuge in Gardena, California where Bishop Noel Jones is Senior Pastor. Karo is also founding member of the original L.C. Anderson High School Alumni Association, Southern California Chapter.
