L.S "PoJo" attended Dunbar High School in Livingston, Texas. He was a member of the District Champs team in 1958, 1960 and 1962. He was a member of the team that went to state for three years. He was the team captain, District MVP and led the district in scoring and rebounding in 1962. He also participated in track and football. He is a member of Dunbar Hall of Fame.
He attended Jarvis Christian College for 1½ years. He participated in basketball and football while in college.
He is a member of Greater Oak Grove Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.
