Kenneth M. Wilson was raised in an all-black community known as the Oak Wood Addition in Baytown, Texas. He attended Carver Elementary School and George Washington Carver Junior and Senior High School, graduating in 1965.
He was born on September 8, 1946 to the late James Willie Wilson of Dobbin, Texas and Johanna Mosely-Wilson of Hempstead, Texas.
A four sports athlete at Carver, he played football (offensive/defense), track & field (440 yd. dash, 440 yd. relay and broad jump), basketball (guard) and baseball (right field). His high school baseball team went to the play-offs in 1965. His mile relay team placed 2nd in 1963 and he placed 3rd in the 440 yd. dash in 1965 at the state track & field meet held in Prairie View.
He attended TSU from 1965-1967 on a track & field scholarship. He later was employed by the Humble Oil & Refining Company. He retired from Exxon Mobil in 2006 after 38 years of service.
Wilson is married to the love of his life, Barbara Harris-Wilson and they have five children, Kelly Wilson, Swan Green, Nicole Johns, Derrick Johns and Courtney Wilson and six grandchildren, Joshua Amber, Isaiah, Kadedra, Sharniece and Kelly. He is a member of the Southwest Trail Riders Association, where he serves as Wagon Boss of the Silver Saddle Brigade Riding Club. He is a member of Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church in Baytown, Texas, Pastor Frank Davis. His hobbies are fishing, hunting, watching and attending all types of sports events.
