Henry W. Johnson graduated George Washington Carver High School in Greenville, Texas in 1963. Henry lettered two years in football as an Offensive Guard. He played both Offense and Defense on the Tiger Squad. Carver High School Tiger Football Team won the 2A District Championship in 1962 by defeating Denton Moore Dragons.
Henry was recruited and awarded a Football Scholarship by Coach Anthony Robinson, Athletic Director and Head Football Coach of the Jarvis Christian College Bull Dog Football Team. Henry was the starting Offensive Guard on the Bull Dog Team for two years until the football program at Jarvis Christian College was discontinued due to lack of funding to support the program.
He completed extensive study in Criminal Justice at Sam Houston State University. He earned a Master's Degree in Public Personnel Administration from Texas State University. Henry was the first African American to be hired as an Institutional Parole Officer in the state of Texas in 1972. He served as Executive Director of Personnel of the Texas Board of Parsons and Parole for 20 plus years. Henry retired from state government in 2002.
Henry has been married to Georgia L. Johnson for 48 years. They are the proud parents of one son Elston Johnson and two beautiful granddaughters.
