George Lee Borner, Jr. was born in Orange, Texas. He attended Wallace High School in Orange where he was a standout football player, graduating in 1961. He was a member of championship football teams.
After high school, George attended Grambling State University where he continued his football career under the legendary Eddie Robinson.
His achievements on the football field helped pave the way for future generations of African American football players in Texas.
