Coach Clifford Miller, Sr. was born September 8, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas. He attended Phillis Wheatley High School and graduated in 1945 with honors. He was a three-sport letterman in football, basketball and track. He played quarterback on the Wheatley Lion's football team.
Coach Miller received a football scholarship to attend Texas College in Tyler, Texas, where he played quarterback. He majored in Physical Education/History with a minor in Biology.
After graduation from Texas College in 1949, Coach Miller started his coaching career at W.H. Ford High School in Trinity, Texas. He then moved to Wheatley High School in San Antonio where he continued coaching football, basketball and track. His track teams won multiple District Championships, and his runners were State Champion relay teams. His basketball teams also won District Championships.
During his career as a coach and teacher, Coach Miller gained the reputation of an outstanding leader in developing young men and women into respectable citizens. He was known for his strict work ethic and his high expectations of his students.
He is married to Rubye Miller. They have one son, Clifford Miller Jr.
