Clifford "Pepper" Hardeman, a native Houstonian, attended Phillis Wheatley High School where he was a member of the Basketball and Track teams. He graduated from Wheatley in 1955 and attended Texas Southern University.
Hardeman started his coaching career at Turner High School in Cartwrights, Texas in 1961 and remained there until 1964. He then returned to HISD serving as Assistant Coach at Phillis Wheatley from 1964-1969 and became the Head Basketball Coach from 1969-1972. At Wheatley his teams were 69-27. Also served as Head Track Coach from 1967-1972 where his track teams won two City Championships and participated in the State Meet.
Coach Hardeman transferred to Madison High School where he served as Head Basketball Coach from 1972-1977 with a record of 49-30, and Head Track coach from 1972-1976 winning one City Championship and placing second at State.
Clifford "Pepper" Hardeman is married with three kids.
