Andrew Gene Taylor attended Dunbar High School in Livingston, Texas. In 1962, he graduated Suma Cum Laude and was President of the Student Council. He was an outstanding athlete. He started on the 1960 and 1961 football and basketball teams. He excelled at both but football was his dream. He played halfback and middle linebacker, and was an all-district halfback on the 1960 District Champion football team. At 140 pounds, his great vision, dynamic foot work, amazing body control and quickness created havoc for opposing defenses.

He was point guard on the 1960 and 1961 district champion basketball teams averaging 15 assist per game. Because of his unselfish attitude as a team player, he would rather distribute the ball than shoot it. He is in the Dunbar Hall of Fame, received The Best of The Best and Fighting Leopard Awards.

Taylor attended Prairie View A&M University, served two years in the US Army receiving the rank of SGT. E-5 and is a Decorated Vietnam Veteran. He worked at Hughes Tool Company for fourteen years before obtaining his Journeymen Certification for Pipefitters. Then he became a Certified Air Condition Technician. He later became an Owner Operator in the Trucking Industry. Andrew is a God fearing man and still supports his home Church, Providence No.1 in Leggett, Texas.
