Coach McEwing attended I. M. Terrell High School where he was a quarterback for the football team and a guard on the basketball team. Pete continued his athletic career at Wiley College, competing in football, basketball and track. He received his MA degree at North Texas while coaching junior high football at I. M. Terrell and winning the city title in the 1968-69 school year.

Coach McEwing received several honors before he retired in 1999 including All State Basketball Player in 1954, Best in Sports in 1954, Varsity T Club in 1954, and was named the first black dean at Tarrant County Junior College at the South Campus in 1975.

He is a member of several professional organizations including the Texas High School Coaches Association, the Texas Junior College Teachers Association, Wiley College National Alumni Association, East St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church and the North Texas State Alumni Association.

We are proud to induct Coach Mitchell Dalton McEwing into the Texas African American Coaches Association (TAACA) 2001 Hall of Honor.
