Coach Haskins attended Dunbar High School in Texarkana, Texas where he starred in football and continued his outstanding athletic career at Huston Tillotson in Austin, Texas. He received his Masters Degree from East Texas State in Commerce and did further study at Lamar University in Beaumont and the University of Texas in Austin.
Dan Haskins began his coaching career at Harris High School from 1960 to 1965 with a record of 49 and 17, at Dunbar High School in Texarkana his record 21-13 from 65 to 68, after coaching at Mount Pleasant from 60 to 65 with a 41-49 record. His teams played for and won several district and state championships against Dunbar-Lubbock, Hallsville and Madison of Dallas. He retired from coaching in 1969. That did not end his professional career. From 1970 to 73 he was assistant principal from 1973-80. He became assistant superintendent from 1980 to 88 in Texarkana, served on the school board and superintendent of Liberty-Eylau ISD, a school district in Texarkana. In 2000 he received his 50 years pin from the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
