James Arthur White (Froggie)

James Arthur White was born in Sweet Water, Texas to the parentage of Edward and Lillian White. Froggie (as he is affectionately known) graduated from Wheatley High School, San Antonio, Texas, 1955. After graduating from high school, James was offered and accepted a football scholarship to attend Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, Texas. Coach Billy Nicks saw in James the attributes to succeed in athletics and in the academic arena. Mr. White stated, "This was the beginning of the most cherished memories in my life."

While demonstrating his abilities as an exceptional athlete, Mr. White completed the academic requirements to receive his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Arts. While excelling academically, White experienced the rewards that are bestowed upon athletes who are winners. Mr. White was a member of the 1959 All SWAC Team as a defensive end. Additionally, Mr. White, was a member of PV's National Football Championship Team because of his athletic prowess. He lettered four years while a member of Prairie View A&M University's football team. During this period the birth of the Panther Club was organized as a functional part of student life. James White was an active member and remains a proud Panther Club member today.

James White is married to Barbara Ann Holts White and they have two sons and two daughters. Troy Anthony White, Beaumont, Texas, Michael Alan White and Dawn Annette White, Houston, Texas; Melody Ann White, Minneapolis, Minnesota; sister, Eunice Shelton, San Antonio, Texas, grandsons; Derrick White, Aaron James White and Troy White II. He is a active member of the West Tabernacle Baptist Church, Beaumont, Texas.

Coach White has touched the lives of many young people who returned to extend accolades of gratitude and appreciation. He began his coaching career in 1961 and Lincoln High School in Cold Spring, Texas. He later coached at Dunbar Junior High School, Charlton-Pollard High School and Central High School, Beaumont, Texas. He retired as Head Basketball Coach at Central High School in Beaumont, Texas 1996.

As Head Coach for 27 years, White accomplished 612 wins and 213 losses. Coach White developed several championship teams and was named District 21-4A Coach of the Year in 1974 and 1975, Charlton-Pollard High School, Beaumont, Texas. At Beaumont Charlton-Pollard High School, he was Coach of the Year in District 22-5A in 1977, 1978, 1979, 1985 and 1986. The school had a name change and Coach continued to be a winner. He was named District 22-5A Coach of the Year at Central High School in 1987, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1996, and 1996.
