Ed Smith attended Arp Industrial High School where he participated in football, basketball and track. He attended Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas and San Jose State in San Jose, California where he participated in football and received his B.A. and M.E. degrees at Texas Southern University. Ed's coaching career includes Arp, Sweeney, BTW in Houston, Jack Yates and Kashmere.
At Arp, Ed coached both boys and girls in all sports and won district titles in all sports. He was an assistant at G.W. Carver in 1965 when they won the Class A state title. His basketball teams in 1965 were state runners up losing only one game. While an assistant at Sweeney, they won the Class AA state title. As an assistant at BTW they were state finalist in 1968, and as head coach at BTW his team won bi-district champions in 1980. At Kashmere, he won his district in 1986 and was in the state playoffs in 1987.
Coach Smith's honors include many; Senior Valedictorian Athletic Scholarship to TSU, All Mid-Western Conference running back, team captain in 1954, All American in 1954, MVP in 1954, most outstanding athlete in 1955, drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1955, inducted into TSU's Hall of Fame in 1977.
Ed belongs to several professional organizations and has worked with many young athletes during his career. His record consists of 101 wins, 37 losses and 7 ties.
