Coach Maurice Dawson attended Moore High School in Waco and Prairie View. He began his coaching career in Mart, Texas in 1950 where he coached football, basketball and track in a class B school. He later moved to his alma mater, A.J. Moore and as a result of integration became an assistant at Jeffers McCone in Waco.
As a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association he has made significant contributions in the field of athletics including being inducted into the Prairie View Hall of Honor, an outstanding lineman in college and was a member of the Moore High School Coaching staff that was voted in to the Texas High School Sports Museum in Waco with Hall of Famer, Lewis Ritcherson was the head coach.
The Texas African American Coaches Association is proud to induct Coach Maurice Dawson into our Hall of Honor on this 27th day of July 1999.
