George Scott graduated from Manual Training High School, Muskogee, Oklahoma where he participated in basketball and track. He then attended Langston University where he continued his athletic career in basketball and football. Other schools he attended include Prairie View A&M and Texas Tech University. His coaching career included stints at Boyd High School in Frederick, Oklahoma from 1949-1951, Favor High school in Guthrie, Oklahoma, 1952, and Lubbock Dunbar 1953-1960.
Among the honors Coach Scott received include the Class B Football State Championship at Frederick Oklahoma in 1950 plus district championships in Lubbock in 1957 and 1959. He also won a state track championship in 1957. Coach Scott's membership in professional athletic organizations includes TAACA and the West Texas Coaches Association. He retired from coaching in 1961.
George Scott displayed outstanding athletic ability in basketball at Langston where he was selected to the All-SWAC Conference team and was a member of the football team for four years. His win and loss record was 63 wins, 38 losses and 5 ties. His real claim to fame was playing on the Langston basketball team with the fabulous Globetrotter, Marques Haynes.
The Texas African American Coaches Association is extremely honored to induct Coach George Scott, Jr. into our Hall of Honor this 27th day of July, 1999.
