Contributions to the field of Athletics: Coach Obie Williams was an assistant football coach on Wheatley's 1936 undefeated team. He also was an assistant coach on Wheatley's 1944 State Championship Team. Coach Williams was the head coach on six State Championship Track and Field teams. Two of his track and field teams won regional titles at Xavier University and Southern University. His 1948 team was honored with the title of "Mythical National Champion".
Honors received: Obie Williams Relays in Houston. Texas held annually in his honor (founded 1968); 1976 Scholarship named in his honor in 1976 by faculty at Phillis Wheatley Sr. High (posthumously awarded), see attached athletic bio.

When did you retire from coaching? Obie Williams retired as Head Coach 1969. He did however decide to serve as an Assistant Coach 1970-74 to Coach Lester Hayes
