Early Overstreet was born November 7, 1932. He grew up in Bremond, Texas. Later moving to Lubbock, Texas, where he finished from Dunbar High School in 1952. He is married to Johnanna Diggs Overstreet and the father of two children; Brian Earl Overstreet and Gladys Overstreet Richard and has granddaughter, Melissa Monique Richard.
His college career began in 1952, after a stint in the U.S. Army. He completed college in 1959 with a Bachelor in Science Degree in Physical Education and Health. He earned a Master of Education from Prairie View A&M University in 1967 in Special Education and Supervision.
Early played on Prairie View's 1952 SWAC Championship team and the 1953-54 Championship team as halfback. He lettered in football, track and baseball during his tenure at Prairie View. He has had a very rewarding career as a teacher, coach and vocational adjustment counselor. His coaching has been outstanding in basketball, football, baseball, track and tennis. Winning seven District Championships in girls basketball, two District and one City Championship in Junior High football, one District Championship in Junior Varsity football and one District Championship in girls tennis.
Early is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and Brentwood Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Deacon Board. He has received numerous service and meritorious awards in his professional career. In 1993 he was honored by the Purple and Gold Athletic Alumni Club. In 1994 Early was inducted into Prairie View Sports Hall of Fame. He received a gold medal of Athletic Excellence in 1986.
Retiring in 1991, after thirty-four years of service, he is presently a rancher.
