Coach Robert Qualls attended Booker T. Washington and Lincoln high schools in Dallas after which he attended Bishop College in Marshall. He received his masters from Texas Southern University in Houston. While attending Booker T. and Lincoln, the versatile athlete starred in football and track. His legendary feats in track included the 100 yard dash, long jump, 880 yard relay, 220 yard dash, and 440 yard dash. He was part of a team which set a national 440 yard relay at at Tuskegee where he met world renown scientist Dr. George Washington Carver. After receiving all-state honors in football, he went on to Bishop in Marshall and continued his athletic exploits in football and track. Schools where he has coached include Lincoln and Booker T. in Dallas, I.M. Terrell in Fort Worth, Madison and South Oak Cliff in Dallas, and Sequoyah Junior High in Dallas.
Because of his experience in track he started most of the tournaments in the Metroplex during his coaching career. He also shared his vast football experience with the great Doak Walker of SMU and pro football great Y.A. Tittle. His ability to punt the football is unequaled in high schools even today. The TAACA is honored to induct Coach Robert Qualls into its Hall of Honor.
