Coach Peoples graduated from Jack Yates High School in Houston, Texas in 1944 where he distinguished himself as a scholar and athlete. He starred in football, basketball, and track, receiving All-City and All-State in football. Coach Peoples entered Wiley College in the fall of 1944 where he continued to excel as an athlete. While at Wiley College, he was nominated All-American Running Back for four years as printed in the Pittsburgh Courier weekly newspaper. He also set a pole vault record of 12' 10" that lasted for twelve years. At the end of four great years he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education and immediately went to work as head football coach at Carver High School in Baytown, Texas. During his career as head coach he won State Championships in football, basketball, and track.

Coach received his Master of Science degree from Texas Southern University and did further his studies at the University of Southern California. Then, in 1969, he moved to the Houston Independent School District as head football coach at Worthing Senior High School. While at Worthing he continued to distinguish himself as an outstanding coach developing outstanding teams providing many professional athletes many of whom have gone on to support their high school's athletic programs and have been selected to enter the Hall of Fame at their respective colleges.

Johnny is a Christian, family man, community and civic leader. He is a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where Reverend Robert McGee is the minister. He is married to Audrey Miller Peoples and they have a daughter, Lisa, and son, Kruger.

Coach Peoples holds professional memberships in various local, state, and national education and coaching associations.
