William A. Stell, a native of Ennis, Texas, graduated from George Washington Carver High School where he was outstanding in football, basketball and track. He entered Prairie View A & M Univ. on an athletic scholarship where he lettered in football and track for 4 years. Stell played on two national championship teams at P.V.
Stell returned to his alma mater and served as Athletic Director/Head Coach for 8 years. He won several district championships including 2 state semi-final champion-ships in football, several district championships in track and placed in the state meet for all of the years he coached there.
He served as Offensive Coordinator for two years at Moore High in Waco, Texas. While there he finished second in the district for two years in football.
Stell came to the Dallas area when he left Moore High School. He started a track program at Forney High School in Forney, Texas that eventually won a state championship. He was the track coach at Hillcrest High School for 5 years where his team won 2 district meets and placed 2nd in the state meet with one outstanding participant whose record in the 300-meter hurdles still stands today.
Upon the re-opening of James Madison High School he served as Offensive Coordinator, where his team made the playoffs for 2 consecutive years.
Coach Stell ended his coaching career at Lincoln High school where he served as Athletic Director and Head Coach for 10 years. His football team made the playoffs for 3 years. The basketball team won 2 state championships and the track team won a state championship. The girls basketball team was runner-up twice. Coach Stell retired in 1990 and is in business for himself as a General Contractor for the Veterans Administration.
Stell has three children (two from a former marriage). Victor R. Stell, an engineer and Renita K Jones, a computer instructor.
He is married to the former Rebecca Ingram Stell. They have one son St. Nicholas B. Stell a senior psychology major at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas.
Stell, spends his leisure playing golf and is a member of the Dunbar Social and Charity Club.
