Coach Allen attended Dunbar High School in Temple, Texas where he was a three sport letterman in football, basketball and track. He received his B.A. Degree from Samuel Huston where he starred in football, basketball and track. He received his masters from Prairie View. He began his coaching career in 1941 at McGregor High School and retired in 1985 at Amarillo. In between, Coach Allen coached at Huston Tillotson, his Alma Mater, Lincoln Johnson in Clovis, New Mexico, Carver High School, Horace Mann Middle and Amarillo High School before retiring.
He was inducted into the Pan Handle Hall of Fame in 1979, and was the recipient of a special presentation after his state football champions in 1952 and state track championships in 1955-56. He retired in 1985, after winning 7 district champions in football plus one state title, 4 district champions in track plus 2 state titles.
The Texas African American Coaches Association is honored to induct Coach Johnny Allen into the Hall of Honor.
