Coach Harvey attended Emmett Scott High School in Tyler, Texas where he was an outstanding 4 sport athlete in football, baseball and track. After graduation he attended Texas Southern in Houston, Texas on an athletic scholarship where he participated in football and basketball from 1949-52.
His coaching career includes Turner H.S. Willis, Texas, Como H.S., Texas Southern University, Houston and Carter Riverside Middle School in Ft. Worth. He retired in 1990. He won 2 district titles at Turner H.S. and 5 at Cuero. He has been a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association for 35 years.
His 35 years of innovative coaching include the run and shoot in the 60's, developed a player i formation sheet for the Philadelphia Eagles, and an accepted timing method for athletes. Many of his outstanding athletes include John Douglas, Carl Thomas, David Slater, Walter Dean, Keith Baker and James Crenshaw.
During his playing days, Coach Harvey was a Pittsburg third team All American and second team All American return specialist in 1951 plus threw the longest TD pass in the nation for 95 yards in 1949. He also played on the only TSU National Championship team in 1952. His coaching record of 94 wins, 45 losses, 5 ties makes us proud to induct Coach Henry Harvey into the TAACA Mall of Honor.
