S.R. "Robe" Roberson Coach Roberson attended Atchison High School where he participated in basketball and track for 3 years. Upon graduation, Robe attended North Carolina Central University where he became the only 4 sports letterman in the history of the school. He lettered in football 4 years, basketball 4 years, baseball 1 year and track 2 years. Other schools attended include Grambling, Prairie View and North Texas State where he received a mid level management certificate. His coaching career ranged from college through high school. Beginning in 1948 he coached at Butler College in Tyler, Texas; Florida Normal in Florida; Wiley College in Marshall, Texas and Dunbar High School in Ft. Worth where he retired in 1972 to become the director of the Dunbar Community School.
While at Wiley, Coach Roberson revived basketball and track and was honored as the "Basketball Coach of the Year" in 1953. Other honors and organizations include: Sports Century Club 1967; KNOK Youth Development Citizenship Award in 1968 and elected to North Carolina Central University's Hall of Honor in 1984. His basketball coaching record is 468 wins and 228 loses. He has been married to his wife Mary for 45 years and has one son, Rudy. It is an honor to induct Samuel R. Roberson into the "Texas Hall of Honor".
