After graduating from Emmett Scott High School in Tyler, Coach Davis spent 30 years in Dallas as Teacher/Coach in elementary and middle schools including 23 years as head coach at Roosevelt High School where his teams were ranked top in the state 4 times, winning state and one runner-up plus 15 district titles.
As an athlete Coach Davis played football, basketball, and ran track for Emmett Scott in Tyler, played 4 years for Bishop College in basketball and captain of the football team, played football in the army where he attained the rank of Sergeant and section chief until his honorable discharge in 1954. He received his Master's Degree at North Texas and is a member of many social, civic and professional organizations which include: American Cancer Society, YMCA, United Negro College, Boy Scouts of America, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and United Way, Texas State Teachers Association, Dallas Classroom Teachers Association, NEA, Texas High School Coaches Association, Dallas Coaches Association, Texas Basketball Association, Local and National PTA, and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.
