One of the hardest hitting linebackers ever to play the game in the state of Texas, Willie Melvin Greene was member of the very first state champion teams in 1940 after the reorganization of the old Prairie View League along the lines of the university interscholastic league.

The 1940 State Champions, I.M. Terrell Panthers, scored 201 points to its opponents 22. Willie went on to football, basketball and track fame at Texas College where he received his B.A. Degree and to Prairie View where he received his Masters Degree. He returned to his Alma Mater where he coached from 1945 to 1952 under his old coach Marion "Bull" Bates, winning the state championship in 1947. He also coached at Como High School in Ft. Worth, James E. Guinn, Earnest Parker and Rosement Middle Schools. He won several middle school championships in football, basketball and track. He was also an All American at Texas College. Besides belonging to many professional organizations, his contributions to the school and community in Como manifested itself in the Como Pride, improved athletic competition and community pride.

The selection committee considers it a privilege to welcome Willie Melvin Greene into the TAACA Hall of Honor.
