George Washington Burton III graduated from I.M. Terrell High School where he starred in football, then went on to an outstanding athletic career at Bishop College in Marshall, Texas.
He received his Masters Degree from Prairie View A & M and belonged to a number of professional organizations including the Fort Worth Coaches Association, the THSCA and the old Prairie View Interscholastic League Coaches Association.
He returned in 1971 after coaching at Pemberton High School in Marshall, Jackson High in Corsicana, Ralph Bunce High in Crockett, Como High in Ft. Worth and Mary Allen College in Crockett. His final coaching stint was at Dunbar High in Ft. Worth where he won a state Golf Championship and a District Championship in tennis.
