A. Tennyson Miller began his brilliant teaching and coaching career in 1935 and concluded it in 1946-47 and became principal of Lincoln High in Port Arthur. After an unbelievable record of 102 wins, 11 losses and 1 tie he began a second career with the federal government in 1967 to 1978.

Coach Miller began his amazing coaching career at Fred Douglas High in Denton where he compiled a record of 56-5-11 in non-conference play and 46-1-1 in conference Class B schools. After moving to Booker T. Washington in Wichita Falls in Class AA his record from 1943 to 1945 was 29-2-0 in non-conference plus 16-1-0 in district. His teams won championships in 1943 and 1945 along with district and bi-district titles. In 1946, Coach Miller moved to Port Arthur for two years for a 17-3 non-conference and 15-3 conference record in AA and 4-A Competition.

While producing 7 district championships and 2 state titles, he developed several outstanding collegiate athletes. While at Denton, C. L. Mix, and Herbert King went to Texas College, D.L. Johnson went to Prairie View along with Mitchell Johnson and Samuel Haynes. At Wichita Falls Booker T. Washington, Bishop benefited from Tommie Christian, Archie Lee Carter, A.T. Devaughn, Curtis Bogan and Herman Devaughn who went to Texas College.

His coaching produced Lincoln High or Port Arthur, Mitchell Johnson who went to Bishop and Alfred McElroy who attended Wiley. As an athlete, Coach Miller graduated from I.M. Terrell and Prairie View where he participated in football. He received his Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin.

The Texas Afro American Coaches Association is proud to induct A. Tennyson Miller into the TAACA Hall of Honor.
