P. W. Neblett, a graduate of Wiley College after leaving Navasota, Texas, became the tennis coach and later the principal at Douglas High School in Sherman, Texas. When tennis was very rare among black schools in Texas, coach Neblett won district titles in 1949 and 1957.
Two of his state champions include William Sims and T. A. Sims. William is a physical education teacher with the F.W.I.S.D., and T. A. currently is a member of the Fort Worth School Board. His players fondly remember him as a coach who insisted, "You hit the ball or I will hit you."
After retiring, the colorful coach served on the Sherman I.S.D. School Board. Among the many organizations he belongs to, P.W. is most proud to be a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
