Carroll was educated in the Waco School District and attended Wiley College, Sam Houston and Prairie View A&M University. At Moore High in Waco he was selected as an All State running back and an All American at Wiley College as a member of the 1945 national champions. His coaching record includes 169 wins, 73 loses and 5 ties, sending 15 players to the professional ranks. Carroll is married to Tessye and has a son Henry, Jr. and a daughter, Dorothy.
