Edward B "Doc" Evans was educated at Prairie View A&M University where he participated in football, basketball, track and tennis. While doing advanced work at UCLA, he coached at Texas Southern University, E.O. Smith Jr. High and Jack Yates High School. He made a number of contributions to athletics before his retirement in 1977. He belongs to the 600 Club among high school basketball coaches having won 611 and losing only 109.
