Big "Mike" graduated from Calvert High School in Calvert, Texas where he was an outstanding football player. He graduated from Bishop College where he starred in football and baseball. His contribution in the field of athletics include assistant coach at Booker T. Washington High School from 1440 until 1062. During this time he developed several outstanding linesmen in leading the Bulldogs to several district and state titles. Coach Purify became head coach at Booker T. in 1963 to 1964 and rejoined the legendary Raymond Hollie at Roosevelt High School as his assistant. Although his record is not spectacular his contribution has been made in the hearts and minds of the many who knew him before his retirement in 1974.
