Alvin Sims was born in Huffman, Texas, but graduated from Houston Wheatley, where he was an outstanding football player. He received a football scholarship to Southern in Baton Rouge, where he played two years before entering into the Army. After returning from the Army he entered TSU, where he was the first football Captain in 1946.
After finishing college he got a job coaching at Burris Junior in Houston. In 1958, he was named Head Football Coach at Houston BTW. At BTW he posted a 68-32-4 record, including 4 District and 2 State runnerup teams.
He is now retired.
